Having left The Daily Telegraph, where he was graphics editor for nearly 18 years with 22 international awards, Alan now writes and illustrates fiction for children and adults. His first children’s nonsense adventure, Curd the Lion, and first adult Gothic ghost tale, The Flight of Birds, are available now. Curd has sold 9,000 in the UK at £15, over 7,000 in China, was made a Book of the Year by lovereading4kids.co.uk and will be included in Made-in-Me’s new Chapter Book Series for iPads, etc.The Flight of Birds has sold around 3,000 at £10.
Alan also illustrates for other publishers such as the Penguin Group, Osprey, Windmill, Hachette Partworks and others including a 200 part series for a Russian publisher. He designs/illustrates book covers and creates cutaway drawings for architects and developers such as World Architect of Year, John McAslan & Partners, and formerly for Kit Martin (now adviser on historic buildings to Prince Charles’s Regeneration Trust).
